Over five decades of connecting New Jersey's international commerce community — educating, networking, and giving back.
The International Commerce Club of New Jersey has a rich history rooted in a passion for fostering international trade across the tri-state area.
The International Commerce Club of NJ had its beginning in 1972 and was formed with the intention of fostering international trade and development in the tri-state area. The founder and first president of the club, Robert Cioppa, recognized a critical need for a dedicated trade organization in New Jersey.
He met with representatives from the local Chamber of Commerce, several steamship lines, and area traffic managers and formed the club. From day one, ICCNJ served as a vital bridge between business, government, and the international shipping world.
Membership has always included representatives from steamship lines, freight forwarders, import/export companies, and other businesses involved in international commerce in the metropolitan area.
"ICCNJ — Giving back to the International Commerce Community"
— The ICCNJ MissionRobert Cioppa founds the International Commerce Club of New Jersey to foster international trade in the tri-state area. Initial membership draws from steamship lines, freight forwarders, and area traffic managers.
The club is formally incorporated as the International Commerce Club of NJ. That same year, ICCNJ awards its first scholarship to a student studying International Business — beginning a tradition of giving back that continues to this day.
ICCNJ grows its annual programming to include speaking events with federal and state officials, Federal Maritime Commission representatives, U.S. Customs professionals, and trade publication editors.
ICCNJ formalizes its charitable and educational mission through the ICC Gives Back program — awarding multiple student scholarships annually and supporting other industry-related charitable donations.
ICCNJ launches dedicated events for the next generation of logistics and trade professionals, ensuring the club's mission extends to young members entering the industry.
ICCNJ continues to thrive with hundreds of members across the metro area, a rich annual event calendar, and a committed leadership team dedicated to education, networking, and community service.
